The government allows UK charities to claim back tax on donations that are made. This is a type of tax relief called ‘Gift Aid’. Gift Aid is given by the government at the rate of 25p per every £1 donation.
So, if you donate £10, the total amount will actually be £12.50 at no extra cost to you. Charities need to be registered with HMRC and donors need to be UK taxpayers in order to be eligible for Gift Aid. If Gift Aid is added to a donation, and charities opt in to the Gift Aid service we will collect it from the government on behalf of the charity.
MuslimGiving charges 5% for claiming gift aid for charities that opt-in.
